The Sunnyside Neighborhood is enjoying an amazing revival as active and socially conscious citizens have moved into this close-to-downtown neighborhood, which is known for the abundance of Sunflowers that are virtually…everywhere. Sunnyside is for the avant-garde urban dweller as well as those looking for a convenient commute to everything that is Downtown, with the museums, fine dining, Performing Arts Center and The Denver Children’s Museum. You are minutes away from the nightlife in Larimer Square or sitting on the Platte River with a picnic and watching the kayak enthusiasts maneuver the class II and III course outside of the flagship REI.
Sunnyside offers some of the best home cooking and local restaurants, including the popular Ernie’s Bar and Buchi Cafe Cubano with is considered “Mexitalican: This is what they call most of the restaurants in the Sunnyside. Although great authentic, fresh and savory food is on every corner, all the restaurants and coffee niches are dedicated to one thing: People getting together with people. Neighbors being neighbors.
But, the scuttlebutt is whether Sunnyside will be the next trendy LoHi! Bordering this hotspot and restaurant hub to the North, Sunnyside has the potential to become the new destination for eateries, bars, and more. Cobbler’s Corner could be a big step in that direction. The new commercial complex will include two outrageous new restaurants, among other things.
In this neighborhood when you think of food you don’t first think of a great four-star restaurant or even the colorful coffee shops like the famous Common Grounds and Huckleberry’s, which are both great additions to the ‘hood. The real food comes from the best gardens in town, and people here love to share their produce.
With the help of our 2011 Bhutanese Refugee program we built beds from our own handmade soil (compost happens!) And created an oasis in Sunnyside neighborhood. Within months we were able to set up our market and make fresh organic food available to our community.
And funkiness at its very best…is a word that applies to the Sunnyside Neighborhood. No cookie-cutter stuff in Sunnyside. No slaves to trendsetting here. And Sunnyside is a great mix of affordable homes, on larger-than-usual lots making Sunnyside a great home buying value.
